HART Flex Evaluation

I applaud the Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority for testing its HART Flex bus service in Sun City Center and Wimauma.

The planned ridership and customer satisfaction evaluations will be important factors in determining if the county south of Brandon will continue getting any level of enhanced transit service to be funded in part by the proposed county-wide sales tax increase.

The majority of the tax increase however would go to a light rail system in the city of Tampa for which no comparable ridership or cost justification studies are available.

Shouldn’t the taxpayers also have a chance to first evaluate the projected costs and benefits of light rail before voting to fund a pot of money to pay for it?

One Response to “HART Flex Evaluation”

  1. It is about time that the residents and businesses in the areas to be served by the flex service receive something in return for the half a mill in property tax they have been paying for decades with little to show for it…and yes, the rail tax needs a business plan. It will be interesting to see how long the new flex services in crucial voting areas stay in effect after the rail tax in not approved by the voters in the Fall.
