Tampa City Council Airport Rail Plan Flawed
Tampa City Council member Mary Mulhern’s opinion piece in the Sunday Tampa Tribune is just that: opinion. Where are the facts & supporting data for rail in Tampa? Her idea is to just cover our bases and have both rail services go to the airport. What’s missing is that the number one factor driving any mass transportation project must be based on ridership.
Instead of meaningful ridership studies the locations of rail routes, stations and types of service seemingly will be determined by what influential downtown Tampa business leaders think they should be, not where actual commuters need them to be.
If we are expecting the Federal Government to just print up more billions of dollars for Tampa rail, we should first know a whole lot more about who is going to ride these things and why.
Being careful about how our tax dollars are spent starts with every one of us.
