Doomed transit tax

Today’s St. Pete Times article by Bill Varian says that the Tampa Bay Area Regional Transportation Authority (TBARTA) spent $35,000 to learn that downtown Tampa voters wanted a shiny new Choo-Choo, but the rest of the county did not want to pay for it.

In all of the questions on the survey, did they ask:

“Would you rather see a $180 MILLION yearly increase in the sales tax used to create jobs throughout the county now, instead of for a train in downtown Tampa five years from now?”

Maybe one more question:

“Do you trust those in charge of Hillsborough County to spend this extra $180 MILLION yearly sales tax increase wisely, without greed, corruption, favoritism or incompetence?”

  1. Marilyn Smith Says:

    No and absolutely no.

We already know THERE IS NO TRUST FACTOR AND ETHICS IN FLORIDA GOVERNMENT IS PASSE…..

We really didn’t clean the LOCAL HOUSE OF GOVERNMENT-BOCC, so do not expect ANY SUBSTANTIVE PROGRESS FOR WE THE PEOPLE FROM BOCC.

The same model of poor selections and hiring out of town ” experts” to tell the BOCC what to do.

UNTIL THE BOCC LISTENS TO ALL THE PEOPLE, EVEN THOSE WITHOUT LARGE CONTRIBUTIONS FOR THEIR RE-ELECTIONS, NOTHING POSITIVE WILL COME FROM THIS LOCAL GOVERNMENTAL BODY.

  2. My vote “no” was a vote of no confidence. I would like vote the same for the 180 million – for the same reason. You are spot on!
