Chasing the Tampa Choo-Choo Caboose

According to today’s SP Times, Business leaders have high expectation for new Tampa mayor. So, what’s on top of that list of “expectations”?

How about a Tampa Choo-Choo?

Tampa business leaders such as Chuck Sykes and venerable Tampa business organizations Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce and Tampa Bay Partnership all say that light-rail in Tampa would be good for Tampa business.

One of the problems with that desire is that they want taxpayers living outside of Tampa to pay for it!

I think that Tampa should have anything they care to pay for. Tampa can raise their taxes anytime they want; just leave the rest of the county alone.

Oh, we might drive all the way into Tampa to ride the Choo-Choo as tourists and thank you for keeping the fare down by subsidizing the true cost with continued Tampa taxes. But pay to build it? I don’t think so.

How about instead, a county-wide tax (including Tampa) to build light-rail from Plant City, through Brandon to Sun City Center and Ruskin/Apollo Beach?

  1. Marilyn Smith Says:

The funding for the light-rail will not be paid by the CITY OF TAMPA. ‘Ya gotta’ understand…..JUST LIKE THE TECO TROLLEY…other agencies and large business get hit up on a regular basis to keep the YELLOW TOY RUNNING.

NOTHING IS GOING TO RUN ANYWHERE WITHOUT UNINCORPORATED FUNDING FROM THE STAKER HOLDERS(TAX PAYERS) OF HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY.

The Tampa Chamber of Commerce would love to raid the treasury, like it got away with for years; and, as for the TampaBay Partnership, it is just yeah, yeah.

With the onerous guidance of both Tampa Chamber and TampaBay Partnership
along with dark dealings of Ken Hagan, we are deeper in trouble now and since Ken HJagan was the Chair of BOCC from NOV 2007-NOV 2010. Only 3 years to give all those foolish idea funding and now looking around for another way to blow more taxes without holding PUBLIC HEARINGs.

JUST REMEMBER…NO MONEY FROM UNINCORPORATED AREAS MEANS NO CHOO-CHOO OR CABOOSE….sounds logical to me.

  2. Hey…you forgot to put Balm on that light rail route from Plant City to Ruskin! I feel cheated.
