Tampa mayor is NOT regional
St. Pete Times Richard Danielson’s premise “Job as mayor for the region” is preposterous. Unless the mayor and city council are running for higher office outside of Tampa, they do not care a rat’s patootie what happens outside of Tampa.
Case in point: the lack of clean drinking water in the tiny communities of Palm River, East Lake, Orient Park and Egypt Lake to which the City of Tampa has long been obligated to provide.
Sorry, those people do not vote in city elections so can be safely dismissed?
Sorry, the plight of those people has been so badly publicized that the County can also ignore them?
Time is up.
Time to wake up.
It is long past time for “the government” comprised of the Tampa mayor, city council and county commission to wake up and take collective action to do the right thing for “those people” before thousands of them start showing up at every public meeting and in every downtown public park to exercise their right to peacefully assemble and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
(Please re-read the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.)
The downtrodden of North Africa have learned how to peacefully affect change with unresponsive leaders.
That lesson will surely not be missed by citizen/taxpayer/voters right here in Tampa-Hillsborough.
